aviation-ÖAMTC warns of current traffic volumes and congestion in Austria and Italy

The ÖAMTC expects significant delays and traffic jams on the main transit routes in Tyrol, Salzburg, Upper Austria and Styria in the coming weeks. The Munich-Salzburg-Villach-Karawankentunnel axes are particularly affected, where accidents and breakdowns have already caused significant traffic jams.

The main traffic jam routes include the West Autobahn (A1) in the Walserberg area, the Innkreis Autobahn (A8) between Suben and Ort im Innkreis and the Pyhrn Autobahn (A9) in Upper Austria and Styria. Further bottlenecks are expected on the Tauern Autobahn (A10), the Karawanks Autobahn (A11), the Inntal Autobahn (A12) as well as on the Fernpass route (B179/B189) and the Seefelder Straße (B177).

The danger spot on the A10 at the beginning of the Reittunel-Eben oncoming traffic area is particularly critical, where many drivers change lanes at the last moment, thereby causing additional risks and traffic jams. The ÖAMTC recommends lining up in an orderly fashion and following the zipper principle.

In Italy, heavy traffic and long waiting times are also expected due to the Ferragosto holiday on August 15th. The A22 Brenner motorways, the A9 Milan-Chiasso, the A23 Udine-Villach and the A4 Verona-Venice-Trieste and the coastal motorways are particularly affected. In addition, there are warnings about longer waiting times in car repair shops, as these often close for two weeks during the summer holidays in Italy and Greece.
