British travelers flying from Morocco to Manchester on August 15, 2024, were left waiting for their luggage overnight. The reason for this is a cockroach infestation in the cargo hold of the Boeing 737-800 of the Royal Air Maroc. After the infestation was discovered, ground staff were not allowed to enter the cargo hold for health and safety reasons.
After a long wait, the passengers were informed that their luggage could not be unloaded. Instead, it was transported back to Casablanca by plane. Those affected expressed their displeasure to the British newspaper The Independent about the unclear communication and the delays in returning their luggage.
The airline Royal Air Maroc has not issued an official statement on the incident. The affected passengers are expected to receive their luggage back in the next few days.
