The Hyatt hotel group and the Spanish Grupo Piñero have entered into a joint venture to expand the Bahia Principe Resorts portfolio. The 50/50 joint venture will be based in Palma de Mallorca and is expected to increase Hyatt’s all-inclusive room portfolio by approximately 30 percent. The transaction is expected to close in the next few months, subject to customary approvals.
Julio Pérez, the CEO of Bahia Principe, will take over the management of the new company upon completion of the transaction. Encarna Piñero, the current CEO of the Piñero Group, is responsible for the functions of the Board of Directors. The joint venture includes 23 resorts with over 12,000 rooms, including 22 Bahia Principe Resorts in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica and Spain, as well as the exclusive Cayo Levantado Resort in the Dominican Republic.
A significant portion of the proceeds from this transaction will be used to renew the existing Bahia Principe resort. According to Mark Hoplamazian, President and CEO of Hyatt, the integration of Bahia Principe Resort into the Hyatt Inclusive Collection will strengthen Hyatt’s position in the all-inclusive segment worldwide. The Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts are also part of the World of Hyatt loyalty program.
