Graz Airport in Styria was used by around 561,000 passengers in 2022. This was around 2.5 times the value a year earlier, but still well below the pre-crisis level. Great hopes are placed in the planned Eurowings expansion.

With the start of the summer flight schedule, with the resumption of scheduled flights to Zurich, the airport was again able to offer connections to 5 major transfer airports – Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Zurich – as well as to the economic metropolises of Düsseldorf and Stuttgart, but not yet with the frequency density that we were used to before Corona. Around 15 destinations were offered for holiday flights.

« After the gradual lifting of the corona restrictions, the flight business got off to a much better start than all the experts had predicted, » explains Wolfgang Grimus, Managing Director of Graz Airport. We were therefore able to look after around 110,000 more passengers than planned!”

441,699 passengers, 270,355 or 157.8% more than in 2021, chose a scheduled connection from Graz to start their business or holiday trip from Graz. 119,836 passengers took off on one of the many charter flights during the best time of the year, which corresponds to an increase of 64,618 or 117%. In the cargo area, things went as follows: After the exceptionally good result in 2021, which could be attributed, among other things, to more than 30 cargo flights, mostly carried out with Boeing 747s, which required medical equipment during the pandemic, there was already a decline in advance expected for 2022. In 2022, a total freight volume of 16,556 tons was achieved, which corresponds to a minus of 14% or around 2,694 tons.

« The increase in air traffic has of course also had a very positive effect on the non-aviation sector, » says Jürgen Loeschnig, Managing Director of Graz Airport. 200 events well booked!”
